Fourth of July: A Community Message

Dear New England College community,
As we come together to celebrate Independence Day, we honor the courage and vision of the Founders who, in 1776, took the bold step of declaring independence and charting a new course for our nation.
In the words of the Declaration of Independence, they affirmed that all people “are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” This powerful promise remains a cornerstone of our democracy and a call to action for each generation. And while there is much for us to be proud of in how far we have come as a nation, we are also reminded of the work we must still do to extend the promise that is America to all.
The Founders’ commitment to freedom, self-governance, and civic responsibility serves as a reminder of the values we hold dear at New England College. Their willingness to imagine a better future, and to work tirelessly for it, inspires us as we prepare our students to become informed, engaged citizens who will shape the future of our communities, our country, and the world.
On this Fourth of July, let us celebrate the legacy of the Founders while reflecting on our shared responsibility to advance the ideals of liberty and justice for all.
